Application of geotextiles in drainage systems

Mar 16, 2024

Geotextile, because of its unique water permeability and mechanical properties, has been widely used in various drainage systems.

First of all, geotextile as a filter layer can effectively prevent the loss of soil particles. It allows water to pass through and blocks fine sediment or clay material, thus keeping drainage channels unimpeded and reducing the risk of clogging.

Second, geotextiles can be used to build vertical drainage walls or blind trenches to accelerate groundwater discharge. In this case, the geotextile is wrapped with coarse grain fillers such as gravel to form a complex, increasing the permeability and reducing the difficulty and cost of construction.

Geotextile also has the effect of strengthening the stability of foundation and slope. It can withstand a certain load pressure without affecting its drainage function, which is especially advantageous for situations where surface water needs to be drained quickly.
