What Is Woven Geotextile Fabric?

Geotextile is a new type of construction material used in civil engineering. It is made of filaments or short fibers laid into a mesh through different equipment and processes, and then through acupuncture and other processes to make different fibers intertwined and entangled with each other. Fixation standardizes the fabric, making the fabric soft, plump, thick, and stiff to achieve different thicknesses to meet usage requirements. According to the length of the filament, it is divided into filament non-woven geotextiles or short filament non-woven geotextiles. The resistance of filaments The tensile strength is higher than that of short yarn.

The choice of geotextiles?

Choosing the thickness and weight of non-woven geotextiles is usually determined based on specific engineering needs and application scenarios. Here are some common considerations:

  • Engineering requirements: According to the requirements and specifications of the engineering design, determine the required performance parameters of the non-woven geotextile, including thickness and weight.
  • Soil type: Different types of soil may have different requirements for non-woven geotextiles. For example, coarse-grained soils may require a heavier nonwoven geotextile to provide better separation and reinforcement, while fine-grained soils may require a finer nonwoven geotextile to prevent particle penetration.
  • Bearing capacity: According to the load-bearing requirements of the project and the expected load situation, select the appropriate thickness and weight of the non-woven geotextile to ensure that the selected material can provide sufficient reinforcement and support capabilities.
  • Expected service life: If long-term use is required and higher durability is required, non-woven geotextiles with greater thickness and weight can be selected.
  • Cost Considerations: The thickness and weight of nonwoven geotextiles are often associated with cost. Based on budget and economic factors, select the most economical and practical non-woven geotextile specifications that meet the project needs.

Quality inspection of geotextiles

Quality inspection of non-woven geotextiles is an important step to ensure that the product meets specifications and quality standards. The following are some common non-woven geotextile quality inspection methods and indicators:

Thickness measurement: Use a thickness measuring instrument, such as a micrometer or electronic thickness gauge, to measure the thickness of the nonwoven geotextile. Compare according to the thickness range determined by product specifications to ensure that the thickness meets the requirements.

Weight measurement: Use a weighing device, such as a balance or electronic scale, to measure the weight of the nonwoven geotextile. Compare to the weight specified in the product specifications to ensure the weight is within the requirements.

Strength test: The strength of non-woven geotextiles is an important indicator used to evaluate its tensile strength and tear resistance. Commonly used test methods include tensile strength testing and tear strength testing. These tests can be performed in a laboratory environment, operated and evaluated according to relevant standards.

Porosity determination: The porosity of non-woven geotextiles refers to the proportion of pore space in the material to the total volume. The porosity of nonwoven geotextiles can be determined using porosity testing equipment or methods, such as the gas penetration method or the liquid penetration method.

Specification inspection: Check the size, color, texture and other specifications of non-woven geotextiles to ensure that the product meets the specifications.

Visual inspection: Conduct a visual inspection to observe whether there are any damage, contamination, cracks, wrinkles and other problems on the surface of the non-woven geotextile.

Features & Benefits

  1. Use the good air permeability and water permeability of geotextiles to allow water to pass through, thereby effectively intercepting sand and soil loss;
  2. Geotextile has good water conductivity. It can form drainage channels inside the soil to drain excess liquid and gas out of the soil structure;
  3. Use geotextiles to enhance the tensile strength and deformation resistance of the soil and enhance the stability of the building structure to improve the quality of the soil;
  4. Effectively diffuse, transfer or decompose concentrated stress to prevent soil from being damaged by external forces;
  5. Prevent the mixing of sand, soil and concrete between the upper and lower layers;
  6. The mesh is not easy to block because the network structure formed by the amorphous fibrous tissue is adaptable and mobile.
  7. High water permeability: It can still maintain good water permeability under the pressure of soil and water;
  8. Corrosion resistance: Made of polypropylene or polyester and other chemical fibers as raw materials, it is acid and alkali resistant, non-corrosive, non-moth-eaten, and anti-oxidation;
  9. Light weight, simple construction, easy to use, shorten the construction period, improve economic benefits, and extend the service life of the project.
