Precautions for Tunnel Anti-Seepage Geotextile Construction

1. Material Inspection & Storage

Verify that the geotextile meets design specifications (thickness, strength, permeability, etc.) before use.

Store rolls in a dry, shaded area to prevent UV degradation and moisture absorption.

2. Surface Preparation

Ensure the tunnel lining surface is clean, smooth, and free from sharp edges or protrusions that could puncture the geotextile.

Repair cracks, voids, and uneven surfaces to prevent water leakage paths.

3. Geotextile Installation

Lay the geotextile tightly against the substrate without wrinkles or folds to ensure full contact.

Overlap seams by 10–20 cm and seal properly using thermal welding or adhesive bonding.

For curved sections, cut and fit carefully to avoid gaps or excessive stretching.

4. Fixation & Protection

Use corrosion-resistant fasteners (e.g., plastic anchors) to secure the geotextile, avoiding metal components that may rust.

Install a protective layer (e.g., shotcrete or drainage membrane) promptly to prevent damage from construction activities.

5. Quality Control

Inspect seams and overlaps for continuity; conduct water pressure tests if required.

Avoid dragging or stepping on the geotextile during installation to prevent tears.

6. Environmental & Safety Measures

Workers must wear protective equipment (gloves, masks, safety harnesses in high areas).

Properly dispose of geotextile scraps to prevent environmental contamination.

7. Weather Considerations

Avoid installation during heavy rain or extreme temperatures, which may affect adhesion and material performance.

By following these precautions, the geotextile will maintain its anti-seepage function and extend the tunnel's service life. Adjust methods based on site-specific conditions.
