Geotextile nonwovens are produced by needle punching staple fibers in random patterns to form high strength and dimensionally stable fabrics. Polypropylene fibers are resistant to UV degradation and do not react with commonly found soil chemicals.
What Is Woven Geotextile Fabric?
Basically, woven geotextiles are made by weaving individual threads on a loom to create uniform lengths. A variety of materials can be used, including slit film, fibrillated yarn, and monofilament, but the weaving technique remains the same regardless of the material used.
This makes the geotextile fabric strong, making it ideal for applications such as road construction, driveways, residential areas, and under highways. Woven geotextiles are not the best choice for drainage projects because, with a few exceptions, they are not very permeable. Instead, it is excellent for long-term isolation and reinforcement applications, and is also corrosion resistant.

What Is Nonwoven Geotextile Fabric?
Nonwoven geotextiles are manufactured by combining short and long fibers by needle punching or other alternative methods. Heat treatment is usually applied to improve the strength of geotextiles.
Nonwoven geotextiles are typically made using synthetic materials such as polyester or polypropylene and are permeable. Ideal for projects that require protection, filtration, separation and drainage. However, it is not as strong as woven geotextiles.

Major Differences Between Woven and Nonwoven Geotextiles
There are significant differences between woven and non-woven geotextiles, especially in their uses and manufacturing methods. The type of project you are working on will determine which geotextile fabric is best for you. The main differences between woven and non-woven geotextiles are listed below.
Woven geotextiles are ideal for reinforcement and stabilization applications, while nonwoven geotextiles are ideal for filtration, separation, and drainage applications.
Woven geotextiles have high load-bearing and tensile strength and are often used in road construction, while non-woven geotextiles are usually measured by weight.
With some exceptions, woven geotextiles are semi-impermeable and their passage rates are low, while non-woven geotextiles are permeable and their passage rates are high.
Both woven and non-woven geotextiles can be made from polyester or polypropylene threads or fibers.
